The G0 Target was brought from the test lab to Hall C on April 17, 2002. After final testing and alignment, it was installed on the up-stream beam-line flange of the magnet. Pictures here show some of the steps in this procedure. Click on an image to view an enlargement. All photos are in jpeg format. They are also available from the G0 ftp site.
| The alignment of the target was checked in the hall with the target mounted on its support stand. | ||||
| The target pump motor was tested. A tissue covering the inlet was pulled in, indicating that the motor was operating properly. | ||||
| During the pump motor test, a tissue at the outlet was pushed out -- again, correct operation. | ||||
| A solid target holder was added to the frame of the target support. Three solid target locations are available which can be selected using the horizontal target positioning actuators. | ||||
| The target was first installed on the SMS up-stream beam-line flange on April 22, 2002. The operation took about 30 minutes. | ||||
| These views show the target as it is being inserted into the magnet as viewed from the down-stream end (through the opening in the inner tube of the SMS LN2 shield). | ||||
| Here are shown more views from the down-stream end of the bore of the magnet. But in these pictures the target is bolted in place. | ||||
| Views of the target cell through the aperature in the LN2 shield and between the jaws of the collimator. | ||||
| With the target in place, the instrumentation could begin to be installed and checked. | ||||
| The pump port was mounted on the 4-way cross in preparation for evacuation. | ||||
| The gas panel was installed and its connection to the "drop-down" lines was begun. | ||||
| The control electronics was brought from the test-lab setup and installed in racks behind the shield wall. | ||||
